Banyan Tree

The banyan tree is one of the largest trees in the world, measured by canopy coverage. The largest known tree has a canopy coverage of 19,107 meters squared. This tree is known for its aerial roots, which grow downward; they become the truck after reaching the ground. The Banyan tree is native to the Indian subcontinent, and it is culturally significant because Buddhists claim the Buddha attained enlightenment under one. The banyan tree is also the national tree of India.
