Diving Museum

In 2005, the History of Diving Museum was first opened to the public in the Florida Keys. Drs. Joe and Sally Bauer created this museum out of their collection of diving helmets, hand-operated air-pumps, and diving armor. At the time, it was one of the largest personal collections in the world. The museum’s exhibit is about early diving techniques like breath-holding, and it tracks the evolution of diving through modern-day technology like atmosphere suits and SCUBA gear. The History of Diving Museum also contains the Bauer Diving Research Library, which opened in 2012. This research library houses over 2,500 books, photographs, and historical literature about diving, making it a leading institution of diving history.
