Lake Shasta Caverns

Subjected to the folding of earth’s crust, the Lake Shasta Caverns were created 250 million years ago in what is now Lakehead, California. The cave was officially discovered in 1878 by J.A. Richardson, a hatchery employee. The caverns were opened as a natural attraction to the public in 1964. The Caverns showcase a long history of the area from being a part of life for the Wintu Indians to the present.
