The 10 meter, 80 ton statue presents Maitreya, the successor of present day buddha, who is known as Gautama Buddha. Maitreya is represented as the Buddha of the future. Interestingly, this particular Maitreya statue is depicted by Budai, a chinese monk.The Maitreya Statue is located in the Bai Dinh Temple Spiritual and Cultural Complex of the Ninh Binh Province of Vietnam. The Temple complex is Vietnam’s largest buddhist worshipping complex, which is popular for buddhist pilgrimages.
