Metropole Bomb Shelter

The Metropole Shelter is located under the Sofitel Legend Metropole in Hanoi, Vietnam. The Metropole was constructed by French investors in 1901; it later became one of Asia’s most celebrated hotels. The bomb shelter was created sometime in the 1960s during the Vietnam War to protect guest from bombings. The city’s oldest hotel became a temporary safe haven during the war especially for famous guests who visited Hanoi such as Joan Baez and Jane Fonda.
