Originally, Narvik was home to the Nordland Red Cross War Memorial Museum that was established by the Nordland Red Cross in 1964. The museum stayed open until April 2016. The Narvik War Museum was a new addition to Narvik square in 2016. The new museum displays a more extensive history of the German attack on Narvik and Norway in 1940 and the five years of war following the attacks. In addition to the history of World War II, the Narvik War Museum includes other exhibits that present a comprehensive history of warfare in northern Norway. Throughout all exhibitions, visitors also learn about the universal issues related to war, conflict, and human rights.
