Newcastle Art Gallery: EVERYTHING CHANGES By Tim Maguire

Tim Maguire’s Everything Changes was on exhibit at the Newcastle Art Gallery from November 18, 2017 to February 18, 2018. The exhibition showcases Maguire’s art work from 2002 to 2017. Throughout those 15 years, Maguire’s use of digital photography has refined his painting techniques that incorporate a color separation process that was derived from color photography and printmaking. This technique can be seen through the artist’s purpose-built lightbox, that introduces light from behind a picture plane. Maguire’s work is described as cinematic in scale, but romantic by nature. He is known for his use of rich colors and technical skills; some of his influences include 17th Century Dutch and Fleming still like paintings. One of the central focal points of the exhibition was the Kinglake Panorama (2015) that depicts the Victorian region that was devastated by bushfires in 2014.
