Located in Bloomington, Illinois, the Vrooman Mansion was built in 1869. Originally, G.W Bunting designed it as a 17-room red brick Italianate-style home. Matthew and Julia Green Scott purchased the home in 1873, however, the home gained recognition under the influence of Scott’s second daughter. Julia Scott Vrooman had always called the Vrooman Mansion Bed and Breakfast home since her birth until her death. Even after her marriage to Carl Vrooman, she defied the gender roles of society and stayed active; this can be seen through her vocal opinions even ones that defied her husband. The Carriage House is a two-story structure that was renovated by the current owners of the Vroom Mansion. The first floor provides a romantic atmosphere where cozy cottage getaway meets modernity with new and improved amenities.
